22 September - Maurice d'Agaune or Saint Maurice and his Coptic companions from Thebes (Theban soldiers), martyrs of the Valais, are Christians who died for their faith under Emperor Diocletian at the beginning of the 4th century (around 303).
21 September - Matthew, is a Jewish character linked to Galilee who appears for the first time in the Synoptic Gospels, where he is called either Matthew or Levi. He is the son of Alpheus. Matthew is a publican (tax collector) in Capernaum.
September 20 - St. Andrew Kim Taegon, born in 1821 and died (executed) in 1846, was a Korean Catholic priest. The first Korean to be ordained a priest, he died for the faith during the years of 19th century persecution of Catholics in his country (1839-1867).
September 19 - On Saturday, September 19, 1846, at about 3 p.m., on a mountain near the village of La Salette-Fallavaux, two young shepherds, Mélanie Calvat, just under fifteen years old, and Maximin Giraud, eleven years old, see a "beautiful lady" in tears appearing in a resplendent light and addressing them.
September 18 - Born into a wealthy Roman family, she raised her three daughters in the religion of Christ and the fear of God. The Greek names of her three daughters, Pistis, Elpis and Agapi, have been translated into French and Russian: they are respectively Faith (or Vera), Hope (or Nadège) and Charity (or Liouba).
September 17 - Robert Bellarmin, born in Montepulciano in Tuscany (Italy) on October 4, 1542, came from a rich and numerous Tuscan family. Robert was the son of Vincenzo Bellarmino. His mother Cinthia Cervini was the sister of Cardinal Marcello Cervini, future Pope Marcel II.
16 September - Cornelius became the twenty-first pope and succeeded Fabian, 14 months after the latter's death on January 20, 250. After Fabian's death, the persecution of Emperor Decius was so violent that Christians in Rome had to wait more than a year to elect a new bishop.
September 15 - Our Lady of Sorrows, or more often: Our Lady of Seven Sorrows, and invoked in Latin as Beata Maria Virgo Perdolens, or Mater Dolorosa, is one of the many titles by which the Catholic Church venerates the Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus.
September 14 - Christian liturgical calendars include different Feasts of the Cross, all of which celebrate the Cross that served for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. While Good Friday commemorates the Passion of Christ and his crucifixion, these feast days honor the Cross itself as an instrument of salvation.
13 September - John Chrysostome was born in Antioch between 344 and 349. His family, Christian, belonged to the Antiochian bourgeoisie. His father, an officer in the Syrian army, lost his life while John was still a child. He is then raised by his mother.
September 12 - The celebration of the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary comes from a city in Spain, New Castile, for the first time in 1513. The celebration was abolished by Pope Pius V in 1570 and restored by Pope Sixtus V, and celebrated on September 17.
11 September - Adelphe de Remiremont was the grandson of Saint Romaric, his date of birth is not known. He became abbot of the monastery of Saint-Mont (Vosges) upon the latter's death on December 3, 653.
