05 November - Zechariah and Elizabeth are the parents of John the Baptist, and we know their stories from the Bible. According to the Bible, they are considered to be descended from a family of priests. They are the parents of John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus.

In the Gospel of Saint Luke 1, 5-25, we can read the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth. They are both of advanced age and it is even said that Elisabeth is infertile. Saint Luke reports the vision that Zechariah, the priest, had of the angel Gabriel, God's messenger announcing the birth of his son. This son is the precursor of Jesus Christ. Then the angel said: "I am sent to bring you this good news". The arrival of John the Baptist is good news for Zechariah and Elizabeth. After this announcement, Zechariah became mute, and also deaf, until the day of the circumcision of John the Baptist. The reason for this was that he did not believe what the angel said and he was punished for it. When he recovered his speech, he praised and sang hymns of thanksgiving to God, which the Church calls the "Song of Zechariah" or the "Benedictus".

Elisabeth, for her part, expressed her joy and gratitude as soon as she felt John the Baptist in her womb during Mary's visit. Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Elisabeth are probably cousins. While Elisabeth was waiting for the birth of her child, like Mary and Zechariah, she reflected on this, contemplating the miracle performed by the Most High within her. She remained silent and alone for five months.
