In his prayer, Elijah invokes the God of his ancestors who had made a covenant of peace with them and who never ceased to renew the promise in that covenant. Not only did he build the house of the Lord, but he led the people to look back and helped them to move forward in depth, giving importance to the past. When Elijah pleaded with God, saying: "Listen to me, Lord, listen to me" so that these people would accept that You are the Lord God and that only You can turn their hearts around again. Fire poured out and burnt the sacrifice, and the wood, the stones, the earth and the surrounding waters dried up. Fire symbolises God's purifying power.
