To contemplate is to look, to see with the eyes of the spirit, there is a story to contemplate, which is generally the story of Jesus in the Gospel. It is the way of praying that helps us to understand and concentrate on the prayer a person is making. Prayer heals us, as it did Bartime and many other sick people who were healed. Christian meditation brings us into conversation with Jesus. Meditation is a process of encounter with God. Many have said that prayer is a work of the heart and that it nourishes the heart. Meditation means taking a passage from Sacred Scripture to examine ourselves, to obtain spiritual benefits. When we pray, we are like the leper who was healed, like Bartime who became blind and regained his sight, like Lazarus who died and was buried in the grave but received new life, from Jesus Christ.
