In 2016, Pope Francis called for the celebration of the World Day of "grandparents" or "older people". Following the Synod of Bishops on the family, published the apostolic exhortation "amoris laetitia": joy resulting from love. 2019 is dedicated to the year of Saint Joseph, head of the family. The elderly have no freedom: they are asked to stay at home so as not to disrupt the community. There's a way of thinking that the elderly disrupt development, that they're incapable of keeping up with the flow of development, that they have no vision of life. There is a perception that the elderly are an obstacle to freedom, an economic burden, especially in terms of food and medical care when they are ill. Diocese of Miarinarivo
Pope Francis has accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the Diocese of Miarinarivo, presented by H.E. Mgr Jean Claude Randrianarisoa. At the same time, the Supreme Pontiff has appointed H.E. Mgr Marie Fabien Raharilamboniaina, as Apostolic Admnistrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same Diocese.
