There are two stages to getting married: firstly, girls are most affected when they reach the age of 12-13 and can be engaged, but they are not yet allowed to live together and no one else can touch them; secondly, when the engagement has been over for 1 to 2 years, the next stage is the contract of love. According to Church law, the 1983 ‘Code of Canon Law’, in Canon 1083 § 1, it is clearly defined that 14 years for women and 16 years for men are the lowest ages for marriage.
