There are those who pray for recognition or praise, that is, they pray to seek glory for themselves. There are those who will pray to show off their finery and fashion just so people can see that they are beautiful and decent in society. The author of the Psalms says very clearly that death is the ultimate enemy of humanity. It is the most severe and terrifying punishment for humans. Prayer makes humans aware that they are limited; this limit helps us not to belittle others because we are supposed to live in society; our identity is others... As the Psalms tell us, we need to be simple and honest when we pray. Being "simple and honest" does not require people to be hypocritical, disguised, hiding handicaps; there is no need to repair and improve appearance, i.e. if we are talking about prayer, there is no need for these providers of "beauty" and "aesthetics" because God does not need "make-up" or things to be repaired. The relationship we find in prayer or in the Psalms is a personal one, the one called ‘interpersonal relationship’. Our relationship with God is close, like the relationship between lovers, the relationship between parents and children; before God we are loved.
