The relationship we find in prayer or in the Psalms is a personal one, the one called ‘interpersonal relationship’. Our relationship with God is close, like the relationship between lovers, the relationship between parents and children; before God we are loved. Prayer is talking to God, raising the soul to God; the Psalms are poetry and poems intended to be sung, which need inspiration. There are many different forms in the Psalms: there is the King's Psalm, there is the entry into the temple, there is the practice of pilgrimage, there is the song of Zion, there is the transmission of messages and teachings. The Old Testament is divided into 4 parts: the Pentateuch, the Historical Books, the Hagiographer-Wisdoms and the Prophets; the Psalms therefore belong to the third part, i.e. in the Books containing the Hagiographer-Wisdoms. The Psalms are one of the Books of Wisdom and are intended to impart skills and experiences. God is the author of the Bible, but humans work with him. The Psalms are prayers because they were written in the context of prayer and the temple. In general, many observers say that David wrote the whole Psalm because he was a poet, a creator and a singer, he also had a talent for playing instruments and he loved prayer.
