The bishops' message concerning the Church and national affairs was published on December 25, 1973: It is not the role of bishops and priests... to dictate to Christians what political ideas they should follow or what political parties they should join or form.... The only role of bishops and priests is to help Christians judge and balance these questions, on the basis of the common good.
