A person's self-awareness progresses gradually; from an early age they are made aware of whether they are a boy or a girl; and their upbringing and conduct at home are adapted accordingly. There are many models of friendship revealed in Scripture: (Ruth and Nehemiah) Ruth was Nehemiah's daughter-in-law and it is likely that there was a great difference between them. In addition, their cultural background was different. Despite these differences, they became very close to each other in terms of friendship (Ruth 1:16).
