From February 16 to April 04 2020, The Salesian Congregation will hold the 28th General Chapter (GC 28) in Turin-Valdocco. This chapter presents 2 messages: the return to Valdocco, the Motherhouse of Salesian, after 62 years, the last was the CG18 and the general chapter which takes its title from a question: "What kind of Salesians for the youth of today?"
An exhortation to the Congregation focused its attention on the figure of the Salesian in order to rediscover the depth and spiritual richness of the charism and, at the same time, to listen as much as possible to the needs of our times, in all the contexts in which Salesians live.
All Salesians are called, even if indirectly, to make their own contribution to help the capitulars clarify the tasks. There are 242 capitulars, including Fr. Charles Armand Randimbisoa, superior of the vice provincial of Madagascar and Fr. Innocent Bizimana, representing the confreres of Madagascar.
In the letter of convocation, the Rector Major proposes three guidelines to be studied in depth. He invites us to respond to a desire, "the desire for greater human authenticity"; a more intense spiritual depth; a more radical professional coherence.
The challenge is to deepen the Salesian mission among the young people of today. In addition, the Chapter will have to outline the profile of the Salesian who is being formed to serve Christ and the young people of today; and finally, there is the sharing with the laity in the mission and formation projected toward the future. The challenges of this chapter are on the one hand complex but on the other hand very relevant.
