Since the Coronavirus pandemic first appeared in Madagascar, containment measures have been taken virtually throughout the country.

This is a decision taken 'in extremis' to prevent the virus from spreading at an exponential rate throughout the country. However, the obligation of containment has taken many families, used to providing food day after day, by surprise and without any help, who are suffering from hunger and risk illness and sometimes death.

The Salesian community of Fianarantsoa, sensitive to the tragedy that the people are living, has committed itself to alleviate their suffering by giving rice twice to the families (they number 230) of the children of the TAIZA project. A third distribution will be made next Monday (April 27): to the rice will be added five eggs (from our hen houses). These funds come from the sacrifices that the community has made during Lent 2020 and from the decision of the community. Requested by an NGO, we have prepared and presented a project (it concerns 635 families: those of the children of TAIZA, the young people of the C.F.T. and the workers of the work of Fianarantsoa) in order to be able to help them more; like Don Bosco we have great confidence in Providence: it is Providence that offers us the means to help the smallest and most vulnerable, we are only intermediaries.

Our action wants to be a testimony of solidarity with the people who are suffering and especially with the most needy. Obviously we cannot save everyone, we have limited ourselves to carrying what is at our disposal in a time of crisis such as the one we are experiencing.
