23 November - Saint Clement was born in Rome, he lived in the first century. Rich, educated and zealous in his search for the truth, it was in Christianity that he found satisfaction to soothe his mind and soul.
He was not a simple Christian, but he succeeded the apostles in proclaiming the Gospel, and St. Paul, in his epistle to the Philippians, recalls the work of Clement, and assured that his name would be written in the book of life. It was this relationship of Clement with the Apostle and his zeal for the faith that made him a man of the mission of evangelization.
Saint Clement is the third successor of Peter, from the year 91 to 101, after Popes Lin and Clet. He was therefore the fourth pope. He witnessed the fall and death of Nero. There was also the reception and destruction of Jerusalem. During the reign of Emperor Vespasian, Clement was brought before the court, and whatever his answer during the investigation, the emperor's desire was clear: either Clement would offer sacrifices to the idols or be deported to Chersonese. He was so happy to meet the many Christians in exile, and said, "I am not worthy of the great favor that God is doing to me.
Clement and his fellow Christians in exile often had no access to water, and besides hard work, they had to travel far to fetch water. So much confidence in God that he told the Christians: "We will pray to the Lord, who will bring springs from the rock. He will come to our help". And they prayed, Clement looked up and saw a white sheep on a hill, and at its right foot a spring suddenly gushed forth. Since then, they haven't run out of water. This miracle had such an effect on the city that many people converted, the Church was established, and soon afterwards idolatry was completely destroyed.
Columns of her written works reflect her mission. During the reign of Trajan, Clement, after twenty years of exile, was persecuted for his zeal and success and thrown into the sea with an anchor weighted around his neck. The Christians came to pray on the shores, and as the sea receded, the body of the martyr appeared to them, resting in a marble chapel built by the angels. The sailors chose Clement as their patron saint.
