11 September - Adelphe de Remiremont was the grandson of Saint Romaric, his date of birth is not known. He became abbot of the monastery of Saint-Mont (Vosges) upon the latter's death on December 3, 653.
Trained at the Abbey of Luxeuil in Burgundy, he would have taken part in the revolt of the monk Agrestius against Saint Eustaise, then abbot of Luxeuil, a mistake that he wanted to expiate until the last moment of his life. He then led a life of prayer at the double monastery of Saint-Mont, which had been founded by his grandfather Saint Romaric. This monastery had the peculiarity of having been founded on the slopes of a hill, on the top of this hill was a convent of Benedictine nuns and down in the valley a monastery observing the very strict rule of Saint Colomban.
At the end of his life, Adelphe wanted to atone for his rebellion and asked to be taken to the Abbey of Luxeuil. On the morning of September 11, 673, Adelphe asked the monk who was watching with him if it was time to get up, and he was told to wait for the signal. The monk went out leaving Adelphe alone, Adelphe was in great pain, the monk ran up and saw the saint sign himself saying that he wanted to atone for his sins, and the former abbot of Saint-Mont died.
Pope Leo IV of Lorraine canonized him on November 13, 1049. A tapestry of the XVIth, telling his life, is kept in Saverne (Bas-Rhin), the church of Neuwiller-Lès-Saverne bears his name, this church is today protestant.
