02 March — Charles le Bon was the son of knut, the king of Denmark in the 11th century. In 1119, he became Count of Flanders on his return from the First Crusade.
Charles brought social peace and justice and distinguished himself for his compassion for the poor, hence his nickname "le Bon". He was very pious and generous, but he was not universally recognized. On March 02, 1127, Charles was murdered during the mass in the Church of Saint-Donatien of Bruges. Shortly after his assassination, the people have already started to venerate him as martyr and saint. The pope Leo XIII beatified him in 1883. He is the patron saint of the Counts and intercessor of the poor.
