Thursday October 7, 2021 - Twenty-seventh week of Ordinary Time - Lord, open our hearts to pay attention to the words of your Son - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 11, 5-13
In general, prayer is reduced to a multitude of requests that we easily forget to give thanks to the Creator, once these needs are met. While prayer can have other intentions, such as contrition, praise, etc.
Regarding requests, it is wise to implore only what is essential. Christ is unequivocal about this, although we have not yet said a word, God knows in great detail what we need. What God expects of us is to completely put our trust in him and that the requests we make from our mouth be our recognition of our inability to be self-sufficient.
Then, we must know how to wait with hope and patience. Indeed, it is rare that a prayer is answered immediately, it can even happen that there is no answer. But let's not despair, because God knows what is good for us. He is fair and gives generously what is appropriate for us. Saint Jean-Marie Vianney aligned himself with this idea, according to him: "Prayer is like water which waters the garden, it must keep the soil constantly moist so that one day it bears fruit".
Dear Christians, God loves us who are his children and he only wants what is good for us. May we, in our requests, keep faith and hope and arm ourselves with patience, for such is the will of Christ that our prayers be answered.
Also on this day of October 7, the whole Church remembers Our Lady of the Rosary. The rosary is a crown of roses offered to the glory of Mary, our beloved Heavenly Mother. It is a really effective prayer to implore the intercession of the Blessed Virgin. Throughout its history, many times the Church has turned to Mary, through the rosary, to spare her from plagues and persecution. It is a sign that Mary's saving mission continues to accompany humanity, it began when she accepted to carry Jesus, in order to give him to the world for her salvation. Also, let us not stop reciting the rosary with fervor to strengthen our bond with this unique mother. Amen.
