Tuesday August 17, 2021 - Twentieth week of Ordinary Time - Jesus Christ made himself poor, he who was rich, so that you might become rich through his poverty - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 19, 23-30

Jesus continues his teaching on wealth. Here he is not addressed exclusively to the rich young man, but also turns to those who make their wealth the meaning of their lives.

It has been said previously that wealth is a major obstacle to accessing the kingdom of Heaven. In fact, wealth is not evil in and of itself, but it is the way we attach ourselves to it, to the point of denying God and neglecting others, especially the destitute and the poor, that does not please. to Jesus. It is for those who do so that Christ proclaims that it is difficult for them to enter the kingdom of God.

The disciples are examples for us of their self-denial in order to be able to follow Christ. Indeed, among them, there are those who have left their families, there are those who have abandoned their trades, as well as their property. And Jesus has already affirmed that selflessness in the goods of this world is the key to eternal life. In other words, it is about giving God, in our life, the first place by loving him with all our being and above all things.

For Jesus, it is not a question of neglecting both the family and daily occupations, but rather of not relegating God to second place and not dragging out his work. Amen
