Sunday May 23, 2021 - Pentecost - Come, Holy Spirit! Fill the hearts of your faithful! Ignite in them the fire of your love! - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 15, 26-27 ; 16, 12-15
Today the Church celebrates the feast of Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles and the Virgin Mary. This is the starting point for the expansion of the Church throughout the world.
The gospel reminds us that when Jesus gathered the Twelve Apostles together, he told them he had to go to the Father. But he reassured them that despite his departure, he will still be with them, even if he is physically absent. He said, "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you to all the truth." This Truth is none other than Jesus himself, as he also declared: "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me". When we walk towards the truth and we observe it, we walk towards Jesus; we welcome the love that is in God and let ourselves be guided by him. So, what happened on the day of Pentecost, the apostles and Mary were filled with the Holy Spirit and the love of God reigned over them; and it not only remained between them, but they went out to others, proclaiming the love of God and the Good News.
This Spirit, the Paraclete, who is sent by the Father in the name of Jesus will remind and teach the apostles everything that Jesus told them. Faced with the current situation, the trend towards globalization, which sometimes is not well controlled and which can destroy our being, and brings us to the abyss of perdition; in the face of difficulties and various trials, for example this pandemic spread all over the world ... The Holy Spirit takes his role and he guides each man and woman towards the true path, the one which is the true path. He reminds us and everyone that it is not wealth, nor authority, nor glory, or the excess seeking of our own self that gives meaning to our life, but the love that we let us testify day after day to those around us. This is why the Church is called, to place herself under the aegis and direction of the Holy Spirit, to be faithful without deviating from her primary mission. Amen.
