Saturday April 24, 2021 - Third week of Paschal Time — Your words, Lord, are spirit and they are life. You have the words of eternal life - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 60-69

Today's Gospel shows us three attitudes of Jesus' disciples and apostles to his discourse on the Bread of Life. Note that faith in Jesus is demanding and it requires a serious commitment to Jesus and his proposal. We will reflect on the attitudes of the disciples and apostles of Jesus now:

The first attitude is that of some of the disciples who were outraged at this word considered hard, and they ceased to follow Jesus Christ, that is to say, they ceased to be Christians, because the Gospel is too demanding, because they doubt the presence of Jesus in the breaking of bread. This type of Christian thinks he believes, but in fact is unable to listen to and accept the gospel and its demands.

The second type of Christian is presented by the apostle, Judah Iscariot. He did not show an attitude of a Christian worthy to follow Jesus, because even if he remained in the group, he was going to betray Jesus, because he did not accept the proposition of Jesus: the very same with whom I was at peace, Who had my confidence and who ate my bread, Lift up your heel against me (Ps 41,10; Jn 13,18).

The third attitude is that of the apostle Peter. Peter showed us the attitude of a true Christian because he wants to remain faithful to Christ by expressing him in the name of the twelve this word: Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. In this affirmation, Peter accepts Jesus the Messiah and believes in Him, even though he does not understand everything.

Like the apostles we need the light of the Holy Spirit to understand the words of Jesus (Jn 14, 25-26; 16, 12-13).

The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth
