Wednesday March 10, 2021 - Third week of Lent - Your words, Lord, are spirit and they are life; you have the words of eternal life - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5, 17-19

"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets, I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill." (Mt 5, 17). Jesus' word is clear, he came to fulfill the Law, he came to give the true meaning of the Law, it is the Law of love that sums up the whole Law. It is through this Law of love that we can enter into the beatitude of God. This is how we understand that the Law is for the salvation of men. It is at the service of their justification and not of their condemnation. This is what Jesus does, in word and deed, he fulfills the Law. He heals and saves men. So, we can sum up the true meaning of The Law in one word: love.

So the Law that God has given us is the Law of God. This is why Jesus said that it is not enough not to kill, in his teaching he even forbids anger: "You have heard that it was said to the ancestors: you shall not kill ... Well, I, I tell you, someone who gets angry with his brother will answer in court ". (cf. Mt 5, 21-26). Anger usually comes from an offense, and it prevents all understanding. Jesus said that it is not enough not to commit adultery, but to also beware of any guilty gaze. The man, who with his gaze desires another's wife, begins to sin with her.

So, those who want to be his disciples, must live this law of love, teach it to others and bear witness to it. For he who teaches this law of love and testifies to others has his share in the kingdom of heaven.

The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth
