Friday, January 22, 2021 - Second week of Ordinary Time - In Christ, God reconciled the world to himself: he has put the word of reconciliation in our mouth - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 3, 13-19
The mountain is a place of special significance in Scripture, it is the place where important decisions are made; like the handing over of the Ten Commandments to Moses; it is also the place where Christ prayed before beginning his ministry. Here, He calls the twelve to dwell with Him before sending them out to announce the Good News, to help Him accomplish the expansion of the kingdom of God. The mountain is a holy place, where one meets the Most High God, therefore, the call to the twelve is also a holy call because it brings one close to God. One of the characteristics of God's call is closeness to Him, He is in communion with us. He has therefore called the twelve to live with him. Moreover, there is the freedom of the one who calls, "He called those he wanted to be with him". The mountains also represent the freedom of the Most High God, and to those who follow Him, He also gives them this freedom. Free from all attachments and other entanglements, the Good News can be proclaimed everywhere. To cast out demons, he said, to heal the sick, especially those who suffer spiritually. This shows the authority of today's Church, an authority inherited from the apostles, established by Christ to sustain and extend his kingdom on earth.
