Thursday, January 21, 2021 - Second week of Ordinary Time - Our Saviour, Christ Jesus, destroyed death; he made life shine through the Gospel - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to St. Mark 3, 7-12

Mark shows us in this passage that Christ is God's envoy, a missionary, on mission for the multitude. His retinue does not consist exclusively of the Jews of Palestine, but of all other peoples, even those who opposed Him. Among them were unclean spirits, who bowed down before Him and professed: "You are the Son of God". He was sent to save mankind, to oppose evil, hence the influx of all those who had a disease to be healed by Him. Certainly people were surprised at his actions, but this is exactly God's plan in sending his Son. Jesus is the Saviour, humble and modest, and therefore He silenced and threatened the unclean spirits, so that they would not recognize Him. This is an attitude demanded of those who carry out the work of Christ today: to always carry out his mission with all his heart, without ceasing to seek neither glory nor honour, but to always live in humility. Never to seek neither recognition nor fame, but always to persevere discreetly in his saving mission.

With you, we take up Mary's song: ‘My soul exalts the Lord’ and we repeat with her: ‘What shall I repay the Lord for all the good he has done me?’....
