Saturday, January 02, 2021 - Many times in the past, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets; at the end, in these days in which we are, he spoke to us through his Son - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 1, 19-28

These priests and Levites, who were in charge of the temple in Jerusalem, were among those who awaited the coming of the promised Messiah. When they heard what John had done, they asked him if he was the Christ, the one who was expected. For John the Baptist was impressive and attracted many people, both by his dress, his conduct and his words, and especially by his baptism. However, he is not the Christ, he is only sent to reveal Him, and to show that He is already among those to whom He is sent but whom they have not recognised, even the Jews, to whom God had first promised the Messiah.

The arrival of these messengers is an opportunity for John to declare that he is only the messenger, the forerunner of Christ, the voice that calls all men to conversion in order to receive the God who came into the world, so that hearts may be open and God may dwell in them, and so that we may know with certainty that Christ is in our midst. May our life be a sign of the presence of Christ, who came and lives in the world, and may others be imbued with it as well.
