Sunday, December 13, 2020 - Third Sunday of Advent - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to St. John 1, 6-8. 19-28 - The Spirit of the Lord is upon me: he has sent me to bring the Good News to the poor.
This third Sunday of Advent is the Sunday of joy, for the great moment to celebrate Christ, the Incarnate Word, is at hand. And the theme that the Church proposes for this week confirms this: "Rejoice, for the Lord is near. It is a joy doubled with hope, because the One who is coming, who is awaited, is not a stranger, and God has prepared us in advance, through John. Simply put, God chose John to precede Jesus. And God sent John to announce and prepare us for the coming of the Messiah. In a word, John the Baptist's mission is to reveal to us the great Light that will illuminate our souls and hearts. He has come to announce the truth, that the great Light will truly come. After all, he said to himself that he is not the true light but Jesus the Savior.
Similar to our daily life, John the Baptist is the pathfinder, the one who walks ahead. He is in the presence of a people thirsting for salvation, and it is in peace that the true Light, Jesus, must come to enlighten those who live in darkness. The earth is waiting for you, Jesus, for the Father has promised us. Therefore, hurry to save the nation that awaits liberation.
