Sunday, November 1, 2020 - All Saints - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 5, 1-12 - Come to me, all you who labor under the burden, says the Lord, and I will give you rest.
On this Sunday, 1st November, the Church celebrates the Feast of All Saints. This is clearly stated in the creed: "I believe in the communion of saints". On this occasion, the Church gives us the Gospel of the eight beatitudes. The word "happy" has the same meaning as "saint" according to Pope Francis. They felt very happy to serve God, to live his Word and to commit themselves. At this moment, we believe that they are constantly praying that we will be with them in the future. As for us, let us try to imitate their virtues. However, let us not forget that the model of holiness is Jesus Christ; the saints only help us by setting an example.
The cult of the saints is one of the criticisms that other confessions make of us Catholics. Let us not be troubled by this, for Jesus said: "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven". We can also experience those eight beatitudes of which Christ speaks: beatitudes that free us from selfishness and arrogance.
Thus, from the beginning, God wanted us human beings to be happy and that is why he made us know these ways of happiness so that "we may be holy and blameless in his sight" as St. Paul said in his letter to the Ephesians. Sin must therefore always be fought against if we want to attain the beatitude of the saints. They sinned, of course, just as we did, but they were always ready and had made the effort to rise again. Amen.
