Saint Paul in the first reading invites us to give thanks to God for the generous people who love us, whom He has given us. It is our duty to wish them happiness and goodness. He sets an example with the Christians of Philippi, wishing them to grow in charity, and in the journey towards full maturity in holiness.

While in the Gospel, Jesus has shown us how to sincerely and courageously seek God's will and His plan of salvation. It was by responding to the immediate needs of his neighbour, even on the Sabbath day, that he fulfilled God's will. In any case, the Sabbath is meant to preserve human dignity and freedom. Here Jesus invites us to have the courage and freedom to do God's will and help those around us.
