Friday, October 09, 2020 - 27th week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 11, 15-26 - Now the prince of this world will be cast out, says the Lord; and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.
Brothers and sisters, we have heard in the Gospels that there is not only the pure spirit in this world, but that unclean spirits also abound and seek shelter. We must guard against this, and one of the best defences is to take refuge under the finger of God, that is, under his authority and power. Saint Paul says: "We live for the Lord and we die for the Lord". Thus, our purity before God must be preserved as the apple of our eye, and in case of human weakness leading to the loss of communion with God, this must be urgently restored through the Church's sacraments. And in case of demonic activity, those who have received special permission to cast out demons must be contacted. Note that there are now many charlatans claiming to be exorcists. For us Catholics, there are priests expressly appointed for this function, they are the ones to be approached.
In other words, don't give demons any way out, neither in our language, nor in our attire, nor in our family, nor in our community. Christ's words are clear: "He who is not with me is against me", he said. So we who are under his protection and control are his disciples. So let our belonging to Christ not be a mere title. As was said earlier, if we do not protect ourselves from the forces of evil, the consequences will always go from bad to worse: a sham of happiness concealing eternal death.
