The Pharisees continue to criticize Jesus Christ. Here it is about the harvest on the Sabbath day by the disciples.

Then Jesus explained the Sabbath to them, which is based in the Old Testament on King David and his courtiers. Thus, Jesus said that the Sabbath was made by God for the good of mankind: it is made to rest and praise God. Therefore, the human is more important than the Sabbath. But our understanding of the so-called Sabbath should not be limited to rest but also to praise God. For the Jews, resting on the Sabbath is only praising God, to the point that all activities are left, and even food is cooked on the day before the Sabbath. To do otherwise would be to not observe the Sabbath day, just as Jesus' disciples did.

Then Jesus answered, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" (Mk 2, 27). He even encouraged people to do good on the Sabbath, not evil, and to save lives, not kill (Mk 3, 4). So here the disciples are making an act of survival.

The Son of Man is indeed the owner of the Sabbath because he is God, and he gives us a way to live it in our place and time.
