Saturday, July 18, 2020 - 15th week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 12, 14-21 - In Christ, God reconciled the world to himself: he put the word of reconciliation in our mouth.
From this passage of the Gospel we can see that the Pharisees are overwhelmed by the simple observance of the law and ignore the value and dignity of man. They are overwhelmed by the mere desire to accuse Christ. However, Christ reminds them that humans are superior to animals, so it is recommended that this handicapped man be healed, and that it is possible to do good even on the Sabbath day. The conspiracy to destroy him did not prevent Christ from completing the healing, but He did it discreetly: this is the "Law of Messianic Silence".
Christ asks those whom He heals to keep the secret of His identity, it is "the humility of the servant". Christ is indeed the Servant of God who gave his life for the good and salvation of humanity. He is not arrogant and asks for no compensation. Where are we, as "Christians", generated by baptism to become servants like Him? May we never be weary in carrying out our mission, and never fear persecution.
