Monday February 17, 2020 — sixth week of Ordinary time — Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 8, 11-13 — I am the way , the truth and the life, said the Lord, No one comes to the Father except through me
This passage of Gospel is in no way a failure of Jesus but a way of highlighting human nature in the face of the act and love of God manifested by Christ. Faith is the outcome through which God's love penetrates man, it is also the force that makes it bear fruit.
Seeking signs is the very character of unbelief, that is, the inability to accept and submit to God, as the Pharisees demonstrate here, even though they witnessed the multiplication of the bread (Mk 8:1-11), the miracle that Jesus performed before this episode. This is why Jesus did not deign to listen to them.
For those who believe, the signs and miracles are not in vain, but a lever which arouses in them a continual desire for God, and which impels them to change so that the Kingdom of God, which is the finality of Christ's teaching, may be accomplished.
Therefore, if we truly believe, we will never tempt God, but we will submit to His love in Jesus Christ who offered Himself for our redemption.
