Friday, January 31, 2020 — Third week of Ordinary time — Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 4, 26-34 — You are blessed, Father, Lord of Heaven and Earth, you have revealed to the little one the mysteries of the Kingdom!
The two parables that Jesus takes have only one goal: to proclaim the Kingdom of God. First, the Kingdom of God is like the seed that we would like to see germinate in the hearts of humans, Jesus being the sower. What God sows must germinate, grow and bear fruit. Our heart is the ground where the Kingdom of God takes root, God is among us when our heart is open to Him. It is He who makes what He has sown bear fruit, whereas we must be the fertile ground, after eliminating everything that can make our heart arid and indifferent to God's will.
Secondly, the kingdom of God is compared to development of the mustard seed, the smallest among the grains but as it grows it provides invigorating shade for those around it. The seed sown in the heart of man, the Kingdom of God, cannot be kept for itself but should be shared so that the faith of each one may be a source of life for the multitude. It is the expression of the Kingdom of God: without borders or discrimination.
