Ownership of community land rights in Madagascar is under threat. The Malagasy do not yet have sufficient laws to protect community land. 50% of the world's land is classified as community land, according to Right Resources Initiatives (RRI) in Africa...
The aim of this annual workshop is to improve the guarantee of community land rights in the face of efforts to protect the environment and the country's development programmes for RRI in Madagascar in collaboration with the ‘Sehatra Iombonana ho an'ny Fanan-tany’ or SIF. 4 October 2024.
Representatives from the ministry concerned, civil society, the grassroots community and, of course, the SIF took part. All of them have an important role to play in defining a strategy for the future and drawing up a joint action plan to guarantee the land rights of the community system.
We have a new national land ownership programme that will bring significant reforms to land ownership in Madagascar. The work programme will run until 2030. One of the strands of this national work programme is the protection of all kinds of human rights, including the land rights of communities and the land ownership rights of people whose ancestors lived there a long time ago, or those who are called Autochtones in French.
