The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the NGO PPC Madagascar are working to meet the challenge of training one million people over 5 years to master the Pfumvudza farming method. The results obtained in just one agricultural year are a sign of success, as the Ivato showcase demonstrates.
Some 1,500 people were trained over a 6-month period. The authorities are currently training over 400 trainers to train people interested in this farming method in many different regions. The training began in July and is being carried out in waves. The training lasts 5 days and is free of charge.
There are criteria for taking part," says Mr. Mamy Razanakolona, a Pfumvudza trainer and informant. In addition to the age limit, there is another criterion for becoming a Pfumvudza trainer, namely holding a bachelor's degree.
