Women will be celebrating International Women's Day on March 8. Malagasy women farmers are taking part. The official event will take place in Toamasina, and there are plenty of events to mark the occasion... There are many women's associations active in the development of local or family production in Madagascar.

Many of them are involved in environmental protection: FVTM and FARM.

The Fédération des Femmes Agricultrices de Madagascar or FVTM is at the forefront of rural development. More than 600 women's associations are members of the FVTM. It was created 22 years ago. FVTM's aim is to train its members, inform them of their rights and empower them as citizens and farmers.

Femme en Action Rurale de Madagascar or FARM was also created a few years ago. These women, active in the countryside of Madagascar, show strength in protecting the environment, and demand "rariny et hitsiny" in all aspects for women farmers.

There was a FARM event in the capital to encourage everyone, through the Ecology Fair, to take responsibility for the consequences of changes in the state of the Earth due to climate change on the lives of human beings.
