Farmers grouped together in Filamantra Soa Imbona or FISOI and SOAMITSINJO in the Analamanga region are already aware of the importance of protecting the environment through the production in which they are involved. All these associations are members of the SOA network. Every year, they plant trees on a massive scale.
Many FISIO members came to the rural commune of Atambolo, Arivonimamo district, Itasy region, on February 9, 2024, to plant trees. The same seems to have happened in SOAMITSINJO on January 31, 2024, and in Ambohiboahangy, commune of Antanetibe Mahazaza, they again carried out massive reforestation.
The aim of the reforestation carried out by the farmers of these two cooperatives is to contribute to the greening of the surrounding environment in order to counter the negative effects of climate change. Four species of trees - olive, coffee, acacia and ash - have been planted by FISIO farmers over an area of 3.5 hectares for Atambolo, totalling 3,000 trees.
There are 18 main associations within FISOI, spread over four regions. The FFF FAO project with the SOA Network is a partner in the reforestation.
The survival rate of seedlings planted by FISIO is 95%. Tree planting is linked to production," says FISIO technician Mr. Randrianarisoa Dina Herinjaka.
