Average yields rose by more than 5 tonnes per hectare in the 11 previous regions where the project operates. The number of irrigated plains has been increased by more than 50. These are just some of the things that happened at the third meeting of the project's coordinating committee, reporting on the work carried out in the last agricultural year and recommending a renewed working model for the next.
A great deal of effort went into achieving these results. Papriz supported the rice production chain at the model sites. Over 100 water user associations have received support. There are also 17 cooperatives, according to Fanja Raharinomena, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. The strategy for future rice exports has also been established. This represents a new business opportunity on the international market, and also strengthens Madagascar's position as a rice producer.
