Together to improve the livelihoods of women farmers in the Vakinankaratra region, women are united in an association working for rural development, in the district of Mandoto or FARM "Woman in Rural Action of Madagascar" "Vakinankaratra. the association prioritizes the protection of the environment.

Vakinankaratra women are aware that climate change has a negative impact on production, caused by environmental degradation. Environmental damage causes temperatures to rise, reducing and disrupting rainfall. They raised awareness and taught women in their region how to make charcoal from waste or “green charcoal”.

It is a long-term solution that does not damage the forest, can also be done on a daily basis and can reduce household expenses by choosing charcoal, said Mrs. Andrianony Hanitra Seheno, mobilizer and leader of the association. Six communes in Mandoto district already have women trained and are already implementing green charcoal changes.

The scope of the project will be extended to other districts in other regions. The problem is the resources to achieve this objective. Women members of FARM in Vakinankaratra are also trying to plant trees to cover their area. They work in collaboration with the regional management of the environment and sustainable development, which made it possible to have 7,000 plants.

The association also has a seedling production facility and aims to expand it to different locations. Women in the association are active in environmental protection, when they are passionate about the value of environmental protection, especially by planting trees, said Mrs. Andrianony Hanitra Seheno.
