Vain people are afraid. They are afraid of being talked about; fear of being outdone by others. It is important to learn to have the virtue of littleness because it comes from God. The people are thirsty for salvation, the Malagasy want to improve and progress in many ways, but this is the fault: the people are not united, intimidation and barbarism are spreading and rampant... They need priests, real priests, not functionaries of God. So we are encouraged not to depend on the things of the earth, but to use them to help our friends, that is, all human beings without exception. This means that we need a renewal from within.
