Environmental and forest restoration, or what is known as “RPF”, is an unavoidable turning point at the present time, in order to protect the environment and ensure sustainable production. Restoring the environment and forests, where Africa will be making a special effort to reach 100 million hectares by 2024. 10 countries have issued a challenge to the RPF, and Madagascar in particular has set itself a target of 4 million hectares by 2030. Work is being carried out in this direction, particularly in the north of the island. The training of farmers in Antsiranana has not been wasted, there, to combat climate change and extend production.
The message was a success in the various training courses attended by these farmers. The work carried out for Antsiranana-II in the commune of Sajoavato and in the village of Berafia in the commune of Andrafiabe is already visible. Residents are beginning to restore the environment around the forest, a project run by the UNION MATANJAKA association in collaboration with the SOA network. They have worked with the TOSIKA association to provide training for farmers. The FAO, through the FFF FAO program, is co-responsible for the rehabilitation of the environment and the “RPF” forest in the Antsiranana-II district.
Selected or improved seed is produced by a number of associations. One of them is Malagasy Mpomakotra Masomboly or F3M. Even if the quantity of certified seed in Madagascar is still not sufficient, farmers are now convinced of its use, according to F3M President Justin Rakotoarison.
Know and take care of water, because it is a guarantee of health. Given the current situation, particularly the difficulty of obtaining drinking water and the lack of rainfall, it's a good idea to encourage each other to be careful with water. People who care about water save lives; water is the basis of life, for example 80% of a child's body is made up of water. Everyone has to make an effort to save water, in other words put in place strategies to save water.
