September 21 is the day designated as World Alzheimer's Disease Day. In 1906, Alzheimer's disease was discovered and diagnosed by Dr. Aloïs Alzheimer and is named after him. Alzheimer's disease is caused by cell damage, or cell degeneration, in several parts of the brain and affects how it works. The average age of people at risk for Alzheimer's disease is around 65 years old.
