Tuesday, December 1, 2020 - First week of Advent - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 10, 21-24 - Behold, he comes with power, our Lord, to enlighten the eyes of his servants.
The Gospel speaks of Jesus exulting in the Holy Spirit. In our profession of faith, Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary. Thus, the Holy Spirit is not only responsible for his conception, but He accompanied him throughout his life and continues his work in the Church to this day.
Jesus was successful in his work. For the little ones welcomed the Kingdom of God which He and His disciples preached. He praises the Father because the Father opened the hearts of the little ones to receive revelation. Therefore, it is not the intellectuals who are holy, but the humble, those who submit to God. Blessed are your eyes which see the day of salvation, Jesus said, that is to say, seeing Jesus and his work, hearing his words, sharing his life and believing in it. For there are those who see or hear, but do not believe.
Humility is the first condition for approaching God. Not intelligence, but an open heart so that God can enter. The disciples share the joy of Jesus, rejoicing because the Kingdom of God is welcomed. Pope Francis often exhorts us to rejoice in life, because joy is the source of holiness and the Kingdom of God is a kingdom of joy.
May the joy of the Holy Spirit overwhelm us, just as the joy that filled Jesus. Amen.
