May 28 - Germain de Paris, also called Germain d'Autun, born in Autun in 496. Born of Eleuthère and Eusébie in Autun, he escaped death as a child. The mother of his cousin Stratidius wants to poison him to take his inheritance, but the maid mistakenly gives the poison to Stratidius.
He was ordained deacon and then priest by the Bishop of Autun, Agrippin. Agrippin's successor, Nectaire, appointed him Abbot of Saint-Symphorien d'Autun. During a trip to Paris, he was noticed by King Childebert and was thus appointed Bishop of Paris in 555. He tried to change the bad manners of the Court and founded the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, with the support of the suzerain. Charitable to the extreme, he lived like a monk until the end of his life, in Paris in 576, observed monastic vigils and fasts and spent the winter without fire.
