March 27 - Habib was born in Tel-Sheba, near Edessa, now Urfa, Turkey. He received the diaconate in 321. Note that this city, where Habib lived, was considered by Turkish Muslims to be the ancient Uhr, the homeland of Abraham the Patriarch.

Habib was persecuted for proclaiming the Gospel in the bush and comforting Christians not to deny the faith. At the beginning of his persecution he went into hiding, but then he surrendered himself to the authorities and was condemned to be burned at the stake. Habib was cruelly tortured along with other Christians, including Samonas and Gurias.

Among the tortures they suffered, some were hung by one hand and then put in the dungeon without any light for three long months. Others were beheaded and others were hung over the pyre where they were burned. Habib, Samonas and Gurias were buried in the same grave, although they were executed at different times.
