The "fady" is linked to the life of the Malagasy people, and it is linked to the life of Christians and young people who are looking for and eagerly waiting for peace and salvation. However, the church often tends to criticize and condemn these customs and prohibitions as bad manners or to interpret them as superstitions. A "fady" is something or someone that cannot be mentioned, named, touched or done.

Prohibitions and customs are interpreted by some religious leaders as beliefs of the devil; Western experts also say that they are means to prevent development. The late Father Adolph said: missionaries are not to blame for thinking this in the preservation of the Christian faith.
