Monday, November 1, 2021 - All Saints - Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, says the Lord, and I will give you rest - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5, 1-12a

On this November 1, the Church celebrates all Saints and this is explicitly said in the profession of faith: "I believe [...] in the communion of saints".

The Gospel on the Beatitudes is offered to us here. According to Pope Francis, the word "happy" is equivalent to "holy". Indeed, these people felt the bliss in serving God, receiving his word and giving themselves to him. Currently, we believe that these saints do not stop praying for us so that we may be in communion with them. As for us, on our side, we must take an example from their virtue. Let us note, however, that the true model of holiness is Jesus Christ and that the saints are there only to show us that, just like them, we are capable of holiness.

The worship of saints is one of the reasons which earns us Catholics persecution and ridicule. Let us make it a source of beatitude, for Christ is clear on this matter: "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for the kingdom of Heaven is theirs". We are capable of these beatitudes announced by Christ. Beatitudes which remove us from selfishness and vanity.

From the beginning, God wanted man to be happy, which is why he shows us these paths to beatitude, so that, according to Saint Paul in his letter to the Ephesians, "we may be holy, immaculate before him".

So, in order for us to be happy like the saints, we must fight sin at all times. They have certainly sinned, but they have known how to recover from it. Amen.
