Sunday July 25, 2021 - Seventeenth Sunday of Ordinary Time - A great prophet arose among us: and God visited his people - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 1-15

Today begins the reflection on chapter 6 of the Gospel according to Saint John. This chapter speaks of the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves, performed by Jesus Christ. By performing this miracle, Jesus expresses the will of God to be present among us. And this presence must also extend to sinners and Gentiles, that is why Jesus Himself went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee or Tiberias, that is to say , he went a long way to meet these people who are divided by evil (symbolized by the Sea of Tiberias). God wants to be present, in other words, he wants through his presence everyone to be saved and he is ready to approach us. Faced with this ardent desire of God to come to meet us, we are invited to welcome him with faith, joy and humility.

The miracle of the multiplication of the loaves also expresses the power and generosity of Jesus Christ: he is the bread of Life, the only one capable of appeasing our physical hunger, for peace and for unity. Jesus wants to satisfy us completely, that is why he gives at the same time the material bread and the spiritual one (the teaching of the Word of God).
