Tuesday July 20, 2021 - Sixteenth week of Ordinary Time - If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, says the Lord; my Father will love him, and we will come to him - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 12, 46-50
The will of the Father! This is the strong message of this Gospel. Indeed, what is this will of the Father? Many times this is proclaimed in the Holy Scriptures, and almost automatically, we cry out, in everyday language, "by the grace of God". May this not be a simple exclamation, but a sustained effort to perfect oneself in the Christian life.
One goal must unite us in this life: "to accomplish the will of God", in order to prepare eternal life with Him. This is the raison d'être of baptism which introduces those who receive it into the great family of God. So, we are part of one and the same family, we are all sons of God. And Jesus insists that to bow to the will of God makes us his brothers. In any case, the Gospel today does not seek to denigrate family relationships, but above all Jesus wants to teach us that in doing the work of God there is no lasting kinship; and that the kingdom of Heaven is not reserved for selected elites, but accessible to all who seek to accomplish this will of God.
Dear Christians, "he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is for me a brother, a sister, a mother". Through baptism we have become brothers in and of Jesus. Also, let us make efforts to perfect our Christian life by maintaining an intimate and incessant relationship with God. In addition, let us maintain the relations between us through charity and brotherly love.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
