Wednesday June 16, 2021 - Eleventh week of Ordinary Time - If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, says the Lord; my Father will love him, and we will come to him - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 6, 1-6. 16-18
Faced with acts of beneficence and charity that we carry out, we sometimes seek recognition from others, there are even some who proclaim it with their horn at all the crossroads that it is his doing. But Christ teaches us humility, he warns us against the excess of vanity: "What you do to become righteous, avoid doing it in front of men to make yourself noticed". This warning appeals not only to the disciples, but also to those who call themselves Christians, especially at this time when mutual aid is imperative.
In addition, piety must also go hand in hand with humility. Praying for real has never been about standing out and shouting in public places. Categorically, Jesus qualifies this attitude as hypocrisy. Of course, one should also not fall into the extreme opposite and be ashamed of one's faith and hide it, but find the right place to meet God. We know that too much to pray is to maintain an intimate relationship with God to worship him and thank him for his blessings, to implore his forgiveness and to ask him for what we need.
Humility is a virtue which Christ demands of his disciples and which cannot be neglected, because it gives meaning to acts of charity. Also, whether in piety, charity or fasting, humility is the imperative that guarantees recognition of the Heavenly Father.
