Thursday June 10, 2021 - Tenth week of Ordinary Time - I give you a new commandment, says the Lord: "Love one another, as I have loved you" - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5, 20-26
Dear Christians, Jesus continues to enlighten us on the Law, so that we may be worthy and in accordance with the will of God, proving once again that he has come to fulfill the Law through love. Time and time again, we have heard this teaching, but we always do everything to ignore it, and do not want to practice. There are four life lessons to be learned from this gospel:
First, it says: "If your righteousness does not exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees". Jesus knows very well, on the one hand, these people. They are part of the elite, they have a deep knowledge of the scriptures and have studied the law, they are attached and are uncompromising with respect to tradition. On the other hand, Jesus also knows his disciples: from the masses, they are generally poor and uneducated. Oh ! How much do the latter have to show a testimony of life to convince the former, when Jesus himself encounters difficulties? The situation challenges the disciples as well as us alike to know the Word of God well so that our wisdom can surpass that of this world. Otherwise, we will be overwhelmed by the opinions of this world, follow them instead of leading them, thus enduring Jesus' words: "The tax collectors and the harlots go before you into the kingdom of God."
Then the old laws state: "You shall not commit murder". A commandment that allowed a certain harmony among the ancients, but unfortunately violated in our time when life has no value and killing has become so trivial, while the teaching of Jesus goes further, because according to Jesus, killing is not just an attempt on someone's life. We can kill in different ways, by jealousy, by persecuting, by hating, by slandering ... Let's think about it.
Third, Jesus asserts that offerings are no more important than reconciliation and love. It is wrong to say that we love God when we hate others. Whoever says he loves God must first love his neighbors. Speaking of which, let's not fall into hypocrisy, because many boast about loving God, but hate others.
Finally, Jesus asks us to go beyond our ambition, our self-esteem and our pride in order to live in all humility so that there is a true communion of love, and that without delay so that we are not thrown into prison. , that is to say the perdition of our soul.
