Wednesday June 9, 2021 - Tenth week of Ordinary Time - Let me know your route, my God; guide me through your truth - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5, 17-19

Dear Christians, the Gospel that is offered to us today is a continuation of the teaching of Jesus that we should have received yesterday. Indeed, yesterday we spoke about salt and light, and although we had the Gospel corresponding to the feast of Saint Jacques Berthieu, what was told there came true in this saint. By taking an example from these saints, we become salt and light of the world. What causes us Christians to be salt and light by receiving the grace that makes us children of God through baptism? The teaching of Jesus today answers the question. Whoever rejects one of these smaller commandments, says Jesus, and teaches men to do so, will be declared the least in the kingdom of Heaven. What are the smaller commandments and what are the larger ones that Jesus asks us to keep? The Law and the Prophets prepare the New Covenant which is none other than Christ himself. What is said in the Law and the Prophets came true in Jesus, he came to fulfill and not to abolish.

The law and the prophets are essential parts of the Holy Scriptures because they express the will of God. It comforts the idea that Jesus did not come to abolish. The question is, if we cannot transgress or change the Law and the Prophets, how could we have traded the Sabbath for Sunday? Why instead of the holocaust at the Temple, do we only offer symbols? Should we still observe the prohibitions on unclean animals? What about the obligation to circumcise the male child and the consecration of the firstborn? It is the same for others on certain practices which are all governed by the law of Moses. The answer to all these questions is provided by Christ, for he fulfilled them all by lavishing his love on us and sacrificing himself for us on the cross. He showed us the greatness of God's love for us. Everything that is said in the Law and the Prophets has come true in Jesus, through him God has revealed himself, so let us follow Christ and his teachings because these are the means for us to enjoy the salvation he offers us .
